In the early days of advertising, consistency was critical for brands that had their sights set on becoming household names. Maintaining the same colors, logos, and styles in all of their ads was the best way for them to become recognizable and engage customers in a world that was almost exclusively print-based.

One word. Evolve.
I had just opened my new iPhone 5 case to discover an entirely new charge adapter. I was not happy about this at all. I was already heavily invested in the old adapter “accessories” like chargers, clock alarms, games, Bose Audio devices, etc. Why the change?
Because it’s better.

The dictionary definition of “branding” usually refers to the name and image of a product or service. However, in the business world we take it a few steps further. BNET defines branding as:
"a means of distinguishing one firm's products or services from another's and of creating and maintaining an image that encourages confidence in the quality and performance of that firm's products or services."
